You probably hear of many groups who do work similar to your friends here of WE CAAN. Sit back, grab a snack and let us tell you a little bit about a project we are especially proud of (other than all of them). Here’s why we are different.
In 2015, we started a farming cooperative in Nyango’s Village. We began with 225 farmer families and we are now at about 425 families! We hold workshops with professional staff to teach these farmers methods of crop rotation, knowledge of nutritious foods, importance of organic sustainable farming methods, and how to make farming crops an economically viable business. You see while we definitely love spoiling these families with packaged foods, not only is it not stable but it is less nutritious. We are not trying to find a quick temporary fix, we are trying to find a long-term solution. This way families are getting nutrient dense foods and can teach each other as well. So when we are not around, they still have the knowledge to create crops! WE CAAN wants to inspire and help the village with their growth. We are excited to see the results in the next couple years. In this day in age, we all need to remember that with an extra hand, the world could become unstoppable together. There’s enough room for all of us. Feel free to donate to help provide the tools so we caan (see what we did there) continue to bloom in Nyango’s Village!
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” – Lao Tzu
One of WE CAAN’s greatest achievements is it a female ran non-profit organization. It’s only right that one of it’s focus is women. In 2013, WE CAAN INC started a women’s cooperative farming project with land that supports widows and orphans. The village chief wanted to support the women’s project and donated land to harvest crops. The food was then given to widows and orphans in the village, other villagers and the rest of the money raised goes to orphan school fees. The message we want the world to know is that any woman can do anything they set their mind to, especially with the help of another woman! We love seeing the smile on these beautiful women. Behind every successful woman, is another great woman! Who run the world?
You wake up to your phone’s alarm, check your Instagram, brush your teeth with warm water and Colgate, change into your favorite pair of leggings and t-shirt, then make Belgian waffles with strawberries and bananas for breakfast. In that sentence you just completed about 5 tasks that a child in Africa will rarely if not ever be able to do. Don’t feel guilty. Feel thankful. Thankful that your life led you to this moment, where you are about to learn about the impact you can have on another human being on the opposite side of the world. This blog will have heartfelt stories of real children who’s live we have changed or will change, tips, facts and everything in between. We are not a large army but it only takes one person to help another. Together WE CAAN change the world. Let’s get started.
